For over a decade, Applause Africa has been committed to advancing social enterprise and supporting new ideas from the emerging generation of leaders. Through various publications and cover stories, our platform has amplified the voices of prestigious African professionals who are committed to solving social issues, improving leadership and transforming their communities.

AFRICAN DIASPORA AWARDS

Our groundbreaking effort to inspire and empower the next generation of African leaders in , the African Diaspora Awards is a special initiative that aims to celebrate exemplary individuals who have made a significant difference in the African community in the United States. The ADA Awards aims to identify and celebrate notable Africans that have genuinely excelled in various spheres of life, as well as individuals in society who have contributed to the advancement of Africans in the Diaspora and Africa as a whole.

AFRICAN EXCHANGE

African Exchange is held annually during the United Nations General Assembly, an invitation-only convening of leaders to discuss important topics on Africa, exchange of ideas around culture, business, and policy. The African Exchange focus on Africa’s contributions to the global economy and represents a radically different approach to leadership and intercultural exchange. African Exchange is made up of trailblazers and achievers who want to see the African continent thrive. We believe our network is an effective tool for catalyzing change in Africa.

CoBLACK SUMMIT

CoBLACK Summit, created to amplify Black Voices and support racial equality, a monthly one-day creative virtual summit. Building on the momentum of Black Lives Matter Movement Across the country. CoBlack programs feature advocates, leaders and thinkers who have worked in a quest for liberation, injustice and racism. From compelling and candid conversations to creative dialogues and community collaborations. The summit is more than a creative gathering. CoBLACK is created to inspire, empower and celebrate black excellent.

RHYTHM & ROOTS!

Our continued mission to support and showcase local, national, and international artists and independent artists. We aims to foster artists – both emerging and mid-career – with the intention of amplifying their professional and artistic development opportunities. We invites all neighborhood performers to come and be a part of our new bi-weekly open mic event: Rhythmic & Roots! Bring your guitars, mandolins, voices, poetry, dancing shoes. PLAY is a recurring event — open to Houston community and beyond. Singers, dancers, storytellers, poets, jugglers and all others are welcome

ROYALS BALL

2019 marks 400 years since the first documented arrival of Africans to the United States. In alignment with a national agenda to recognize the significance of this anniversary, Society for Africans in the Diaspora (SAiD) produced some of the best celebrations of Black life and Black joy with our annual Royals Ball. A night of art, entertainment, music, fabulous food, wine and cocktails and the best party in Htown! Proceeds of the night benefit programs and educational outreach of SAiD, that celebrates Black cultures, ignites challenging conversations, and inspires learning through the global lens of the African Diaspora.

PAGE BOOK CLUB

PAGE is guided by a passion for literacy and a determination to share a love of reading with kids of all ages. PAGE is dedicated to helping kids grow to love reading and learning. Available for children in 5 Grade to 10th Graders between 10-15 years old. PAGE is focused on delivering a mix of books that challenge and enhance your child’s education. How it works is simple. SAiD sent an approved books that will help your kids develop and improve their reading skills and kids meet only once a month for hands-on activities and conversation that help children develop the fundamentals of empathy, leadership and activism.

BLACK & INFORM

This is a critically important program to secure the future for Black art, culture, and creative expression. BLACK & INFORM is an open call for Black artists to submit proposals presenting a solo exhibition to be shown at SAiD. Via the Emerging Artists Program, we aims to foster artists – both emerging and mid-career, with the intention of amplifying the professional and artistic development opportunities available to chosen participants. Keeping social justice as a central focus, each artistic presentation touches on themes most relevant to the African diaspora from imagination, love, roots, family, culture, identity, community, education, self- expression, mental health.
